Yellowstone
Best of luck to all of the Yellowstone backpackers leaving this Saturday. Hope to see you all in one piece sometime in July.
Northwoods Report
We are all set for Northwoods. Thanks much to the parents that have stepped up make this happen - Mrs. Weiss, Mr. Bedard, Mrs. Haggerty, Mrs. Ballou, Mrs. Ramm and especially Mr. Kuhlman! Thanks also to the trailer pullers whoever they may be...
Speaking of trailers, the Troop 70 Scout Trailer is looking for a new resting place when not in use. If you have a large piece of property and can hide something big, red, and heavy, please let us know.
Service Opportunity
Mr. Gartung knows a scout from another troop that is looking for help on the book drive that he is doing for his Eagle project. As a participant, you would be given collection bags that you would need to fill by canvassing neighborhoods, or your own basement, and then returning the bags to a specified location by a certain date. This activity will take place late July or early August. If you are interested, please let Mr. Gartung know.
SCUBA
We are still looking for a parent to volunteer to coordinate a SCUBA experience for the younger scouts. Please see Mr. Kuhlman if you can help out with this.

Announcements
Northwoods Swim Test: Any boy going to Northwoods that did not make it to the GLHS Open Swim for their BSA swim test can do so at any open swim at GLHS between now and Northwoods. Ask for Ann the lifeguard and let her know you are from Troop 70. It is in your best interest to do this in the pool where the wait is LESS and the water is WARM. Also, all scouts attending Northwoods need to complete a schedule card and their blue cards for merit badges. Plan on working on this at meetings in June.
We need a first year parent to volunteer to organize a "Splash Party" for the new scouts. This is a Troop 70 tradition that gives new boys an opportunity to try out scuba diving in a controlled environment. Contact Tony Kuhlman if you are interested. This is an easy one!
Contact Mark Nida if you are planning on doing the Manistee River Trail Backpacking trip. (6/12-6/13) The plan is to leave early Saturday, hike, and return Sunday. Whew!
The cost for Dan DiPietro's Bike/Hike/Canoe trip (6/11-6/13) is $25 if you are canoeing, $5 if you aren't. Food is extra.
Au Sable Canoe trip will cost $42 per person not including food. This is one of the great family trips that Troop 70 does. Get to know your Troop Family by signing up for this awesome event. Thinking on this one is minimal.
The SeaBase SCUBA crew dates have changed to July 3, 2005 for all crews. Rah! Dry runs, (nope, that won't work) practice opportunities will be announced when they become available.
Another easy volunteer opportunity - we need someone to assume responsibility for the Troop 70 T-shirt and neckerchief inventory. This involves supplying shirts to new and or growing boys and supplying neckerchiefs to new or forgetful boys. Replacements can be arranged through First Place Sports. Minimal sewing experience is required for the neckerchiefs .

Great news! The lettering on the troop's trailer is nearly done, and
it looks great! Scott Parsons and Tom Barry of Stamp Rite did a
terrific job! Thanks, guys!!
Mr. Deming did a presentation about the need for new adult leaders in
the troop soon. Mr. Nida will be stepping down as scoutmaster in a few
months, and we will need a someone to fill his shoes. We did get some
new people for other positions: Mrs. Ballou is the new fundraising chair,
and Mr. Kuhlman is the new committee chair. Mrs. Lea volunteered to stay on as the Popcorn Kernel, and Mrs. Kuhlman and Mrs. Kromer agreed to chair the spaghetti dinner next year. We still need assistant scoutmasters to help with each patrol. Please step forward, folks. This is for the benefit of your sons!
Upcoming events:

Tuesday, May 4: Troop meeting at the church. Patrols will plan menus
for the camporee on May 14-16.
Tuesday, May 11: All Eagle scouts from Troop 70 are invited to come to
the meeting to have their picture taken with the trailer. The troop
will have a fire building practice, and each patrol will cook something
in a dutch oven. We're hoping to have the Eagles present judge who
does the best dish.
Friday, May 14: Need 4 boys and 1 adult to volunteer at the last fish
fry of the season.
Friday-Sunday May 14-16: Camporee at Charlotte - the theme has not
been announced yet. The troop needs adults to go along on this trip.
Please note that this date conflicts with a high school band canoe trip.

We will march to the cemetary for the ceremony at the G.A.R. memorial statue.

Please see the Northwoods page for details about this trip.
