Troop 70 will provide hotdogs, buns, and condiments. Each family is asked to bring a large dish to pass, their own tableware, drinks, and a chair to use during the Court of Honor.
Saturday, September 8 to Sunday, September 9 are the dates for our annual Hart/Montague Bike trip. Well camp overnight at the park in Hart. Cost is $15 which covers camping and pizza for the Saturday dinner. Those boys who have already started the bicycling merit badge (Calum R., Jason B., Nick B., Adam A., Brett M., Drew M., Aaron F., and Derek V.) can complete all requirements except for the final rides at this time. A trailer will be available to haul the bikes. Departure time is 8:30 am from the township hall. Well be back at the township hall around noon on Sunday. Pay and sign up for this trip on Tuesday, September 4.
Wacousta Heritage Days, originally scheduled for the weekend of September 14, has been postponed until Memorial Day weekend.
Dan N.'s Eagle Court of Honor will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 7 pm, at Heritage Park. In case of rain, it will be at the church. The family needs someone to videotape the ceremony. Contract Mark N. if you can help with this.
Philmont: The first Philmont practice hike will be held the weekend of October 13 at the Jordan River Trail, East Jordan. This will be an 18 mile hike, 10 miles the first day, 8 the second. Those signed up for Philmont must participate in at least 2 of the 4 planned practice hikes. This includes adults. A fitness evaluation will be filled out for each participant on these hikes. These forms will give feedback on readiness for Philmont and you must have a passing score to go to Philmont. The first payment of $182.50 is due by October 2, the second payment will be due in February. Suggestions and volunteers are needed for Philmont fundraising. See the Demings.
The committee has drafted the following guidelines for participation in troop trips. Comments are welcome before the document is approved (reply back to this newsletter).
GUIDELINES FOR PARTICIPATION IN TROOP 70 TRIPS
In order to participate in Troop 70 trips and outings, a scout is expected to be an active member of the troop.
An active member is a scout who:
1. Has participated in at least one service project during the past year.
2. Is making progress toward rank advancement and/or merit badge requirements.
3. As often as possible, attends regularly scheduled troop meetings.
4. Has participated in at least one troop fundraising project during the year.
This past Tuesday, several of the boys in the troop came up with activities theyd like to do this coming year. They then voted to determine the top choices. The list of favorites will be sent to you in a separate e-mail and will also be available at the next troop meeting. An adult is needed to plan and coordinate each activity. It you are interested in being in charge of one of these, please let Kim Ramm, Julie Zischke, Lee Paquette or Louise Paquette know what activity and what month you can do it. Also if any merit badge counselors want to schedule badge activities let us know.
The information in the Scout display case at the church needs to be updated. It has been suggested that the right side contain photos of our Eagle scouts. We need a volunteer to coordinate the getting/taking photos. Let Mark Nida or Dan Buonodono know if you can do this.
Tony Kuhlman has been working on a Troop 70 webpage. He would like input as to the pages design and content. Whoever is interested can meet with him at the September 11 meeting.
Because the newsletter is now being e-mailed to members, it is very easy for someone to be added to anothers address book. Please use members e-mail addresses for just scout business and do not send/forward chain letters or any other junk e-mail without the members consent.
Fundraising popcorn sales will be starting soon and information on selling wreaths is coming. Tuesday, November 20, will be a wreath making night.
The troop will go through the Corn Maze for the October 16 activity night meeting. Cost is $2.50/boy. Family members welcome to participate. Well meet at the maze (Clark and Lowell) at 7 pm.
All scouts and their families are invited to the Demings annual party on October 20, 5 pm - ? Bring a dish to pass and your own drinks.
