Troop 70 trip to Florida Seabase in 2008

Troop 70 is going to BSA's Florida Seabase in the summer of 2008.  This is one of the three high adventure trips that BSA offers.  We will take 2 crews:  one on the Coral Reef Sailing adventure, and one to the Scuba adventure.

The first step to go is to sign up.  A signup form is available at every troop meeting.  Each crew will be limited to 6-8 members, so be sure to sign up and put down a deposit now.  Deposits will be $50.  You can use your scout account money for the deposit.  Ask Mr. Gartung for the balance of your account if you're not sure if you have enough there.  The fee is $5,200.00 per crew for the sailing crew.  This does not include airfare, travel costs, etc.

Seabase is using an online reservation system now.  We will put in our request between January 15 and February 15.  After this time, reservations will be assigned at random.  We will be notified after February 15th if our request was granted.

Seabase has certain eligibility requirements that each participant must meet:

- Each participant must be a registered scout or adult leader.

- Sailors must be 14 years old by Sept. 2008.  Scuba divers must be 14 years old before arriving at Seabase.  PROOF OF AGE (school ID, birth certificate, valid state-issued ID, passport) IS REQUIRED.

- You must pass the BSA swim test - swim 100 yards, and stay afloat 1 minute.

- Must be in good health, and have a Seabase Class III medical form filled out and signed by your doctor within the last 12 months.  SCUBA requires it's own medical form and waiver.

- SCUBA divers must be certified by a nationally recognized certification agency recognized by BSA.

- No participant may weigh over 300 lbs.

- All participants must know and use the scout oath and law as their guide to appropriate behavior at Seabase.
