Update from March 31, 2002:
Troop 70 Spaghetti Dinner
Big Success
Wacousta, MI - Last Saturday night the boys and parents of Wacousta Boy Scout Troop 70 served nearly 300 Spaghetti dinners. While not all the numbers are in, event organizers called it the best attendance in the history of the event.
Our thanks go out to all of the parents and boys who worked so hard to pull this event off. Special thanks go to the DeWitt/Wacousta Masonic Lodge, which for the third straight year under wrote the cost of the dinner and for the first time loaned us their hall to have the dinner.
Those that deserve special mention are team captains, Jerri Lynn Osmar (Head Chef), Dan DiPietro (Procurement), Kim Ramm and Martha Ballou (Labor), Scott and Melody Parsons (Ticket Sales), D'nita Heeg (Serving), Tony Kuhlman and Dan Vincent (Clean Up), Dan Schooley (Sale Motivation) and Rick Adams (Set Up). We all thank Susan Deming for coordinating the entire event and making sure everyone was doing his or her part in harmony.
If you still have tickets or monies to turn in please get it to Scott Parsons or Allen Deming as soon as possible.
Update, 2/12/2002:
There will be a meeting for all the Spaghetti Dinner Chair people on Tuesday Feb 19th at the Masonic Lodge in Wacousta at 7:15. That is an activity night for the boys so it should work out ok. We can go through the facility and see what we need.
If you can't come let us know. Thanks.
Wacousta Boy Scout Troop 70 Annual Spaghetti Dinner
Dinner is Set
Good news, the Wacousta/Dewitt Masonic Lodge has not only offered to underwrite our dinner, as they have in the past, but they have volunteered to lend us the use of their hall and to assist us with organization and publicity. Our dinner is planned for Saturday, March 23, 2002. We will begin serving at four-thirty and continue until seven o'clock.
Team Captains Chosen
At the January 15th troop meeting the Spaghetti Dinner Committee held its first planning session. Members volunteered to head the teams that will be crucial to the success of the dinner. Each team captain is responsible for working out the details for their part of the dinner. Our thanks to each one of them in advance for stepping up to support Troop 70.
- Procurement- Dan DiPietro. Buys all of the food and other supplies. (Dan the Masonic Lodge has offered their services in finding the best deal on this stuff. They buy quite a bit for their famous fish dinners and may be able to cut our costs. I will contact you later with our past purchase history and a Masonic contact.)
- Underwriter- Allen Deming. The Masons have promised to cover our costs in this dinner. A letter is being sent to area businesses for the place mat ads.
- Labor Committee- Martha Ballou & Kim Ramm. Sorry ladies, I guess that's what you get when you skip out early and aren't there to defend yourselves. Please coordinate with Allen Deming to keep the lists of volunteers for the workgroups.
- Set Up - Rick Adams. Come early (3:00) and supervise the crew in setting up tables and chairs, tablecloths, place settings and decorations.
- Head Chef- Jerri Lynn Osmar. Arrives early (3:00) organizes kitchen staff for cooking, plate filling and dish washing.
- Serving Supervisor- D'nita Heeg. Organizes seating of guests, wait staff and table bussing.
- Clean Up Committee- Tony Kuhlman and Dan Vincent. Organizes post-dinner break down and clean up.
- Ticket Sales- Scott Parsons. Assign ticket to each scout, is responsible for tracking and collecting for those tickets and money at the door.
- Ticket Sales Competition- Dan Schooley. Setting goals for ticket sales and motivating boys to new heights.
- Philmont Bake Sale and 50/50 raffle- Allen Deming. Responsible for pie donations and bake sale items. Supervises bake sale and hawks raffle tickets.
Captains please feel free to contact Allen and Susan Deming for help. We have all of the documentation and notes on our past dinners. We are trying to schedule a walk through of the Masonic Hall soon to get a feel for the facility.
